International Studies
Bachelor of Arts
"We have to move from our devotion to independence, through an understanding of interdependence, to a commitment to human solidarity."
Catholic Bishops' Pastoral on the U.S. Economy
Do you "think globally"? If so, then the University of Saint Joseph International Studies major may be for you! A degree in International Studies prepares you to meet the professional challenges of an increasingly interdependent world.
Multidisciplinary Curriculum
The International Studies major (and minor, which is also available) is a multidisciplinary course of study designed to:
- provide an inquiry and issues-based outlook on the global interdependence;
- prepare leaders for proactive roles in global issues and concerns;
- develop a foundation for further studies and/or career development through the acquisition of applied and critical skills, including linguistic abilities.
The curriculum is based on the comprehension of the nature of contemporary global issues, and the ability to unravel the theories and debates implicit in the study of the most recent globalization phenomenon. This foundation is strengthened by the study of a foreign language, an experience abroad and a rigorous concentration of study in polity, economy and society or in languages and cultures.
An option exists for a self-designed concentration approved by the director of International Studies.
